Brand Vision / Visual Identity
Brand vision/visual identity for Europe’s largest shellfish company, Macduff Shellfish. The project has been a fruitful collaboration between our teams in Norway and the UK. The identity and communication management have been developed through an extensive strategy process.
Macduff Shellfish is a specialist processor of wild Scottish shellfish and the largest independent shellfish processor in Europe. Macduff Shellfish produces wild, fresh products in their natural form.
They process six main species: langoustines (also known as prawns or scampi), king scallops, queen scallops, brown crabs, velvet crabs, and whelks. From these six shellfish, Macduff makes more than 340 different varieties of finished products, individually tailored to meet different customer specifications. The quality of the end product does not just depend on the raw materials. Correct handling and processing of shellfish is also vital. The town of Macduff has been reliant on fishing, boat-building and the manufacture of fishing equipment such as nets and ropes since the harbour was financed by James Duff, the second Earl of Fife in the late 1700s. The legacy of the Duff family can also be seen at Duff House in the neighbouring town of Banff, one of the finest Georgian mansions in Scotland, designed by William Adam and built by William Duff, the first Earl of Fife. From its humble beginnings in the 19th century, operating a single fishing boat, the Macduff Shellfish has grown to become the biggest independent shellfish processor in the UK.
130 years and 4 generations of the Beaton family later, the company still retains its connection to the local area, as the current operations are based in Mintlaw just 20 miles from where it all started.
With a huge passion for what they do, the guys at Macduff’s really live up to their new slogan: Wild about Shellfish. Macduff Shellfish’s origins lie in the small fishing port of Macduff in the North East of Scotland, from where the company takes it name.
